2025 International Workshop on the Circular Electron-Positron Collider Held in Guangzhou (2025-11-17)
From November 6th to 10th, the International Workshop on the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) was held in Guangzhou. This conference was jointly organized by South China Normal University and the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, bringing together 419 experts and scholars from more than 20 countries and regions worldwide to deeply explore the latest research progress and future development directions of the CEPC project. The workshop covered multiple fields including physics, detectors, accelerators, software, and related industrial development, with a total of 261 oral presentations and 52 poster displays. Experts engaged in extensive and in-depth exchanges on the design optimization, technological innovation, and physics discovery potential of the CEPC project, creating a lively discussion atmosphere and achieving fruitful results.
Since the previous workshop, the CEPC research team has completed the compilation of the Technical Design Report (TDR) for the CEPC Reference Detector and has fully developed the Engineering Design (EDR) for the accelerator. At this workshop, the collaboration systematically presented the complete detector design to experts and scholars from around the world. This design has been comprehensively optimized for cutting-edge scientific goals such as Higgs particle and electroweak physics, with performance indicators reaching world-leading levels.
In response to the extreme pursuit of energy and efficiency in future colliders, advanced accelerator technologies also became one of the focal points of this workshop. Experts engaged in in-depth discussions on several revolutionary technologies that have the potential to transform future accelerator designs, including iron-based superconducting technology, high-efficiency klystrons, and plasma wakefield acceleration technology. Continued investment and collaborative efforts in these frontier technologies will serve as the technical foundation for ensuring CEPC's international competitiveness and eventual successful implementation.
To promote scientific popularization and public engagement, a special public science lecture was held at South China Normal University on the evening of November 6th during the conference. Academician Wang Yifang from the Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered an excellent report titled "Higgs and Neutrinos: Two Windows to the Future of Particle Physics." Wang Yifang elaborated on the central role of Higgs particles and neutrinos in revealing the fundamental structure of matter and the origins of the universe, emphasizing the crucial importance of the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) experiment and CEPC in this exploratory journey. The lecture hall was filled to capacity, attracting many university teachers and students. During the interactive session, the audience actively asked questions, demonstrating the younger generation's strong interest in fundamental scientific research.
This event also included a plenary meeting of the CEPC Institutional Committee. Representatives from multiple domestic and international collaborating institutions gathered together to conduct strategic discussions on the long-term prospects of high-energy physics experiments in China. This meeting further consolidated research capabilities and strengthened the foundation for long-term collaboration.
The successful hosting of this workshop not only comprehensively showcased the solid progress made by the CEPC international research team over the past year but also deepened cooperation among global high-energy physics scholars, providing a platform for researchers to exchange ideas. Following this workshop, participating scholars will continue to advance the research and development work of CEPC with renewed enthusiasm.
