CEPC Accelerator International Review Committee Meeting Convened (2024-09-24)
From September 18 to 20, the meeting of the International Accelerator Review Committee (IARC) for the Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC) was held at the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Attendees included IHEP Director and CEPC Executive Committee Chair Wang Yifang, project leaders, accelerator system heads, and research participants.
Wang Yifang delivered a welcome address. CEPC Project Manager Prof. Lou Xinchou first outlined the overall progress of the project during the Engineering Design Phase (EDR). Prof. Gao Jie, Vice Chair of the CEPC Institutional Committee and Accelerator System Coordinator, introduced the research content, objectives, plans, and progress of the accelerator team in the EDR phase. Heads of CEPC accelerator-related systems reported on their respective system research progress. During the meeting, the International Accelerator Review Committee engaged in in-depth dialogue and exchanges with CEPC accelerator researchers, providing professional comments and suggestions.
This meeting was the first IARC meeting since CEPC completed the Accelerator Technical Design Report (TDR) in 2023 and entered the Engineering Design Phase (EDR) in January 2024. The committee unanimously affirmed the achievements made by the CEPC accelerator team during the EDR phase, including accelerator physics design, key technology research and development, prototype development, industrialization preparation, and team building. They also encouraged CEPC to further strengthen international cooperation and advance site studies.
Sixteen internationally renowned scientists and technical experts from countries including China, Switzerland, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, France, and Sweden participated in the meeting. After the meeting, some IARC members visited the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS).
