IHEP Signs Cooperation Agreement with Serbia's Vinča Nuclear Physics Institute (2023-12-20)
On December 4, the signing ceremony for the international scientific cooperation agreement between the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Serbia's Vinča Nuclear Physics Institute was held at the National Key Laboratory of the Vinča Institute in Serbia. Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming was invited to attend the event.
In his speech, Ambassador Li Ming introduced China's "International Science and Technology Cooperation Initiative." He stated that the China-Serbia comprehensive strategic partnership is currently operating at a high level, with fruitful cooperation achievements across various fields. Technological innovation is becoming a new growth point for consolidating and developing bilateral relations. The signing of today's agreement will expand the depth and breadth of China-Serbia scientific and technological cooperation, injecting new vitality into the traditional friendship between the two countries. He expressed hope that scientists and researchers from both countries would take this opportunity to strengthen communication and exchange, making new contributions to the well-being of both peoples and the development of global science. He also congratulated the Vinča Institute on its 75th anniversary.
IHEP and the Vinča Nuclear Physics Institute officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on CEPC cooperation in 2016. IHEP Deputy Director Li Yuhui, along with Vinča Institute Director Prof. Snezana Pajovic and High Energy Physics Head Dr. Ivanka Bozovic-Jelisavcic, renewed this cooperation memorandum. Simultaneously, IHEP Deputy Director Li Yuhui, Researcher Chen Mingshui, Vinča Institute Director Prof. Snezana Pajovic, and CMS Experiment Team Leader Dr. Vladimir Reković signed a cooperation agreement on the CMS experiment. In the subsequent exchange session, both sides introduced their respective institutes' research fields, achievements, and future development plans.
Prof. Pajovic, Director of the Vinča Institute, stated that signing the cooperation agreement with Chinese partners demonstrates that the Vinča Institute and its researchers are keeping pace with advanced global science. Since the first cooperation agreement was signed in 2016, Vinča's research teams have actively participated in collaboration with IHEP, representing an important contribution by the Vinča Institute and the Serbian government to the progress and development of world physics.
Afterwards, participants visited the Vinča Institute's national key laboratories in fields such as physical chemistry and atomic physics, and exchanged views on current hot scientific topics including new energy, biopharmaceuticals, and environmental governance.
